| President's message | | | | I am pleased to offer you my first edition of the QESBA President’s message. At the QESBA’s annual Fall Professional Development Session/Annual General Meeting, a majority of our elected and parent Commissioners from across the nine Boards entrusted me to lead this important organization over the next two crucial years in public education. It is not lost on me that I was elected exactly one week following the QLP’s members’ convention where the controversial proposed education resolutions calling on the re-examination of existing school board structures and cutting school board funding in half were removed from the floor. After five minutes of sighing in relief, the Minister of Education, Recreation and Sports, Line Beauchamp stated unequivocally that they would resurface in the near future. We, as a system, and more importantly a community, have our work cut out for us in the next few years. Not only are, our school elections postponed indefinitely, we must now ensure that our institutions aren’t restructured and cut to the point where nothing is left for our students. They are, the future of this beautiful province.As Yogi Berra said, “If you come to a fork in the road, take it.” Together, we shall take it, find the right way and fight for it. It’s the least that we can offer our students, talented teachers, professionals and support staff of this wonderful system we call ours.I look forward to serving this association and going the distance together.
