This government must act in the best interest of students, parents and communities

Montreal, February 22, 2016 – The Quebec English School Boards Association (QESBA) wishes Pierre Moreau a speedy recovery from what was announced today as a prolonged absence for medical treatment. We also wish to offer the Minster of Education, Recreation and Sports Sébastien Proulx well in his new duties.

Premier Couillard has separated the Ministry of Education and Higher Education into two portfolios. Higher Education going to Hélène David and Primary and Secondary going to Sébastien Proulx. QESBA is calling on Premier Couillard to suspend work on Bill 86 indefinitely for the benefit of students, parents and communities across the province.

“This Ministry is on its’ 10th Minister of Education in 11 years. That is not fair to students and furthermore, Bill 86 has been divisive and has absolutely no benefit to the classroom, teachers, parents or our community,” said QESBA President Jennifer Maccarone. “It is time for the Premier to table Bill 86 and for the new Minister to meet with education partners and open a healthy dialogue and work with us to find solutions that will ultimately benefit the classroom. We have ideas that will benefit students and our system that can be adopted within the current Education Act,” concluded the President.

QESBA is the voice of English public education in Quebec.
