QESBA celebrates International Women's Day
Montreal, March 8, 2017 – The Quebec English School Boards Association (QESBA) is proud to celebrate International Women’s Day.
The education field has always been a leader in recognizing the important contributions of women. From teachers to administrators to consultants, professionals, support staff, pedagogical leaders, and school Commissioners, women have been the driving force in ensuring that the education system meets, and exceeds, the needs of learners of all ages.
The 2014 school board elections saw true parity with women representing 50% of winning candidates. In fact, school boards are the only level of politics in this province that has true parity in elected representation. “Not only do women represent 50% of the elected Commissioners but the 3 largest English Boards are each headed by a woman,” said QESBA President Jennifer Maccarone. “For the most part, the education community has become completely unaccepting of gender bias,” concluded the President.
International Women’s Day is another important reminder of why school curriculums must reflect the reality of past and current events.
