Montreal, November 17, 2016 – The Quebec English School Boards Association (QESBA) is examining the adoption of Bill 105 that was completed today in the National Assembly.

The Minister of Education, Recreation and Sports Sébastien Proulx completed the third and final reading of the Bill and it was subsequently adopted. While there have been substantive amendments to the original bill deposited, we will be studying the new elements of the law very closely before taking a formal position.

“QESBA has been clear and consistent that certain issues surrounding elements of the Bill do not meet our Section 23 minority language community rights to manage and control our English education institutions and therefore we must be vigilant with our analysis,” said QESBA President Jennifer Maccarone.

“QESBA must ensure that we protect our institutions for the sake of our students, our community, and the future of our school system. We will take a formal position on the content once our analysis is complete,” concluded the President.

QESBA is the voice of English public education in Quebec representing the nine English school boards in Quebec.
